Nicole Campbell

Vice Chair

Nicole is a lifelong resident of Peggy’s Cove. She has worked at the family business, The Sou’Wester Gift & Restaurant since her early teens and currently works as the Dining room Manager. Nicole loves her job in the Tourism industry and thrives on ensuring that visitors to Peggy’s Cove get the best experience possible. Nicole is active in her community as the chairperson of the Peggy’s Cove Preservation Society. Outside of work Nicole can often be found hiking with her dogs or paddle boarding. Nicole is very pleased to have been given the opportunity to serve as a commissioner as well as the vice-chair of the Peggy’s Cove Commission in 2020.

 Gordon Smith

Commissioner: NS Director of Planning, Dept. Municipal Affairs & Housing

In his role as the Provincial Director of Planning for Nova Scotia, Gordon is automatically appointed the Commission. In addition to his public sector work, Gordon brings 25 years of consulting experience in landscape architecture, community planning and design, and land use planning to the table.

Karren Fader

Commissioner

As a prior resident, 1990 – 2005, Karren has a keen interest in the environment, fishery, local business and tourism within the living village. During her fifteen years in Peggy’s Cove, Karren raised her two children and was active in the community. In the early 90’s, as part of a group of residents, she actively lobbied for the installation of the composting washroom system at the Visitor Information Centre. Additionally, she served on the Commission and was a member of the Peggy’s Cove Preservation Society.

Karren began her career as a medical radiation technologist in Halifax, worked on the South Shore for a number of years and has been faculty at the Dalhousie School of Health Sciences since 2003. She has been directly involved in her profession, provincially as the Chair of the regulatory authority and nationally as the President of the not-for-profit professional association.  Currently living in Tantallon, Karren still feels connected to The Cove through family and friends and is pleased for the opportunity to bring her experience as a resident, as well as her board and governance knowledge, to the Commission.

Pam Lovelace

Commissioner

Pam is the new Councillor representing District 13, which includes the Village of Peggy’s Cove and the Preservation Area. Pam has a twenty-year career in communications and project management. After graduating from Mount Saint Vincent University, she worked for CBC Maritimes in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as a producer, and worked in various communications roles with federal, provincial, and municipal governments. Following her first run for Halifax Council in 2016, she completed a master’s degree in adult education and worked for Dalhousie University. Pam is the recipient of Volunteer of the Year awards from both the city of Halifax and the province of Nova Scotia, among other recognition, including the Canada 150 Sesquicentennial Pin and Minister of Veteran Affairs Commendation.
