The Village of Peggy’s Cove falls within a provincially designated Preservation Area and is protected by provincial legislation. The Peggy's Cove Act states: the purpose of the Commission is to preserve the unique scenic beauty, character and atmosphere of the Area for the enjoyment of both residents and visitors.
Updating existing property or starting a new development is inevitable; it also means consideration is needed to preserve the Peggy's Cove area. The expansion of existing development and new development projects are both subject to provisions described within the Peggy’s Cove Land Use Bylaw. Property owners interested in development within the Preservation Area, must comply to the provisions of the Land Use Bylaw, obtain a Development Permit, and consult the Halifax Regional Municipality about a Construction Permit prior to the commencement of construction.
